Icon for Oldham is a plan to provide a major new public artwork as part of a concerted campaign to raise the profile of the town and enhance its image locally, regionally and nationally. The project will also mark the principal vehicle route into Oldham, once the most important cotton manufacturing town in the world. Oldham is now re asserting its status in the North West Region and intends to restore a real sense of pride of place. The promoters anticipate a budget of £2M - £3M will be needed to achieve these aims. Icon for Oldham is part of a programme of strategic action led by Oldham MBC and is supported by a wide spectrum of other public and private organisations. The client team now want to recruit an Artist, Architect, Landscape Architect or Creative Design Team to realise this project and are seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified parties. This is a challenging and exciting project and we want people with the best ideas who can develop a realisable project for a complex set of circumstances. We will shortlist up to 5 individuals or teams who will each be paid an Honorarium of £5,000 to develop a technically feasible design proposal with outline implementation costs. Deadline for Submission of Expressions of Interest: 2nd June 2008 For details of how to enter the Icon for Oldham Design Competition first see the Brief and the Submission Requirements at www.working-parts.com or write to Geoff Wood, Icon for Oldham Project Manager, Working pArts Ltd, Shoulder of Mutton, 70 Towngate, Midgley, West Yorkshire, HX2 6UJ.
