Call for Paper: 8th international Sculpture Symposium Davos 20- 27.7.2012

The 8th Sculptor Symposium of Davos will take place from 20.-27.July 2012in Davos. Davos is a city in
the mountains, famous for the WEF (World Economic Forum), for Skiing and the famous expressionist
painter E.L.Kirchner. (www.davos.ch)
Specially invited artists create sculptures on a given theme over a period of six days.
Spectators have the chance to see art in action, to follow the fascinating stages of each sculpture from
start to completion and to talk to the talented artists. Approximately twelve artists from all over the world
will be working in Davos with wood and stone. The working place will be around a small lake with a
platform on the lake and fountains, a location with an idyllic atmosphere.
The artist has the opportunity to exhibit some smaller sculptures in during theperiod of the symposium.
Call for paper and participants: Professional or advanced sculptors may participate in the 8th sculptor meeting
The jury will evaluate your project and how you deal with the subject. (no reproduction of earlier works).
Criteria are:Deal with the topic/realization of the topic, Idea/Originality, Techniques/Difficulty, Practicability.
The jury decides which candidates will be admitted. The number of participants is limited to 12. The
organisation committee decides about the allocation of 1-2 wild cards
The organiser will set wood (larch and spruce trunks, calibre 050 cm, length 2.5 m) and erratic block
(max 500 kg ) at your disposal. Other material such as glass, metal are admitted, but need to be organized and financed by the participant. In this case the commission will be adapted in favour of the sculptor and after consultation with the symposium office. Special sawing of the trunks can be organised at the cost of the participant.
Costs: we offer free accommodation in upper class hotels (3-4* hotels, half-board, no drinks included).
The sculpture created during the symposium becomes property of the artist. The artist
agrees to leave the sculpture in Davos for at least four months, unless the sculpture is
sold. The final placement and care of the sculpture will be carried out of by the organizer.
